Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1893, aged 11, in riding outfit with classic riding crop with deer horn handle and well-cut breeches, elegant as he always was and as presidents rarely are now
Like the Russian people deserve better than (Ras)putin, according to a distant relative of the killer of Rasputin, the American people along with the rest of the world deserve better than B-rated presidents or B presidents, not to mention T-rated ones, the trompe-l'oaf, the Taliban of the United States of America, the Supreme leader of America Latrina, the nouveau T. Rex. Tyrannosaurus Rex lived throughout what is now western North America, an active predator and a scavenger... (Little as there is to believe about him, T's family is believed to be natives of Germany, known as Dummkopf, who then became immigrants in America, where the family was known as Dumb, Dump or Tramp, as they were too illiterate to spell their own name, engaging in a business or renting properties, rent boys, the father and the son and the unholy spirit of toxic lies, becoming prostitutes to voters...)
As Lady Julia Flyte said of a more recent Rex (Mottram, a businessman and politician) in Brideshead Revisited (1945):
He wasn't a complete human being at all. He was a tiny bit of one, unnaturally developed; something in a bottle, an organ kept alive in a laboratory. I thought he was a sort of primitive savage, but he was something absolutely modern and up-to-date that only this ghastly age could produce. A tiny bit of a man pretending he was the whole.
These are the kind of people that populism raises into power, no Platonic philosopher-kings. In addition to the current superficial celebrity culture and greedy profiteers, one can be suspicious generally of people in good positions. Many of them are there more for their skill of promoting themselves than their actual skills in performing their duties - the eternal opportunistocracy. Much worse than the corona virus is the Republican virus of the premier international terrorist organisation. The worst winner in U.S. Presidential Elections turned out to be also the worst loser. Hopefully now since 20 January 2021 at least some improvement will follow - from bigot to Biden.
Gore Vidal said that the US oligarchy seeks wars to profit through their arms industry but President Franklin D. Roosevelt was an aristocrat who set up a measure of social security, while his role in provoking the Empire of Japan to attack Pearl Harbour was questionable as well as his successor’s atomic bombs. Vidal also says that the B-rated presidents were uncultured and inferior to the aristocratic Roosevelts, hating Roosevelt for setting up even the rather limited measure of social security, as the B-rated are solely interested in making money for themselves, and what a waste of money it is when you do not even have the sophistication of knowing how to spend money in a worthwhile way. It is like the populist whose sole skill is in lying himself or herself to power but then not knowing what to do properly with that power. Populists are a waste of power. The B-rated family also disliked Roosevelt for telling them not to trade with German Nazis during the Second World War. High treason is no stranger to populists and profiteers. The most punished crime in war is to lose the war. Many German Nazis then of course found good jobs in the US after the war – like Dr Merkwürdigliebe-Strangelove or Dr J. W. Müller of Tintin becoming Professor Smith in the land of dark profit, his only good quality being an elegant equestrian outfit to match Roosevelt. Even villains were stylish once upon a time.
...wars, conflict - it's all business. One murder makes a villain; millions, a hero. Numbers sanctify...
Hergé was inspired by Chaplin. They both dealt with the realities of the world in their art. For example the aristocratic and colourful Lord of Moulinsart, Captain Haddock let Roma stay on his land when the local authorities would only allow them to stay in the local rubbish dump. Similar attitudes persist, for example, in relation to asylum seekers.
The Seigneur of Moulinsart is of course a hereditary peer, a true philosopher aristocrat, who may not fit well into modern or contemporary opportunistic society but does not compromise on his honest originality and is not afraid to be different and unfashionable.
It has been said that the main reason for American independence from Britain may have been to continue slavery in America as slavery was becoming outlawed in Britain, like Brazil became a republic because the monarchy ended slavery there and like the 1789 French 'revolution' was merely an upstart bourgeois coup. The British monarchy is rather more modern and egalitarian than the US Constitution, not least with its awful Second Amendment. It is rather shortsighted, superficial, dogmatic, absolutist and questionable to regard the Order of the British Empire (OBE) as colonial, as if missing the point. Rightly rejecting colonialism does not require rejecting every symbol even remotely appearing colonial. Even then for all its evil British colonialism hardly did worse than what was before and even after it in the countries in question. Arguably British colonialism was in some ways more progressive than what has followed. The British Empire was certainly better than Idi Amin of Uganda, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Charles Taylor of Liberia, the persecution of the Rohinga, to name just a few examples... Even the first known black person to vote in Britain Ignatius Sancho was a supporter of the monarchy and British forces in the American Revolutionary War.
American Journalist Dylan Matthews has written in 2019:
... I'm reasonably confident a world in which the revolution never happened would be better than the one we live in now, for three main reasons: Slavery would've been abolished earlier, American Indians would've faced rampant persecution but not the outright ethnic cleansing Andrew Jackson and other American leaders perpetrated, and America would have a parliamentary system of government that makes policymaking easier and lessens the risk of democratic collapse.
After several centuries of immigrant rule of questionable legitimacy including B-rated and T-rated repugnant Republican Presidents in América Latrina where the republican form of government has maintained worse racism than the hereditary monarchies of the rest of the western world, the native population should be restored to its rightful place with true equality for all. A native Indian constitutional monarchy could be restored to replace the at recent times highly vulgar U.S. Presidency, the non-native chiefs of Po*keepsie.
